Welcome To The 1969 Mustang "S" Code World Registry!

This site is dedicated to the obscure 390 big block Mustang's of 1969. Fewer than 10,500 390 Mustang's were made in 1969, the last year the 390 was offered in the Mustang. This makes 1969 390 Mustang's rarer than 1969 428 CJ Mustang's by a good measure. Many people aren't aware that Ford even offered the 390 in the Mustang in 1969. Hopefully this site will make people more aware of the "forgotten big-block's", make owners more aware of their cars, provide a place for owners to share with others, and provide a place to register your car and  post a photo if you like.

Questions and Answers

Q: How do I know if my 1969 Mustang is an "S" code car?

A: The best indication is if the VIN # has an "S" as the 5th digit, if it doesn't then it isn't an "S" code car. All VIN #'s must also match, that means on the title, dash board, and inner fender. I do not include the door tag as the door could have been changed at some point in time due to an accident or rust.

Q: Were all 390 Mustang's Mach 1's?

A: No, they were not. The 390 engine could be ordered in any body style of Mustang in 1969, not just in the Mach 1. At present I do not have a break-down of 390 engine installation by body type, but I believe most of the 1969 390 Mustang's were Sport roof's. I have seen 1969 390 coupe and 390 convertible Mustangs also however.

Q: What special equipment came with the 390 engine on the Mustang?

A: When ordered the 390 engine on a 1969 Mustang also came with the competition handling suspension, 9" rear-end, improved cooling system, and shock tower reinforcements. Ordering the 390 engine did not get you a posi-traction rear-end, deluxe interior, disc brakes, air conditioning, etc.

Q: How many 1969 Mustangs were made with the 390 engine?

A: A total of 10, 494 1969 Mustangs came with the 390 engine.

I am looking for 1969 Mustang clip art to use on this site (preferably with a black background), if you have a link to any then please send it. Thank you!!
